A good deal of $$$$ has been spent trying to keep the asian carp from entering Lake Michigan. It may have failed allowing a potential huge disruption into an already threatened ecosystem.

DNR will be poisoning a portion of the canal tomorrow in an attempt to kill off the carp. Let's hope there will be some measure of success.

Close the canal, pure and simple.

There appears to be a backup plan....
Top Michigan officials said Wednesday they may take legal action to try to close the Chicago shipping canal if other efforts to block the migration of Asian carp into Lake Michigan don't work.

I am a little miffed that the $$$$ spent was a waste.
It will be interesting to see what happens. A great deal of commerce uses the lock as do boaters transitting to the Mississippi form the Great Lakes.
