Notes/Other: Our third trip to the marvelous island. We have learned so much form the last two trips. Hope to see some smiley faces along the way as we tackle the mighty Minong!

It looks like arrival date will be june 4th. I have been kicking around another route, and could use a little input about it if anyone would.
Washington creek to Huginninn cove
Huginninn cove to N.Desor
N.Desor to Todd Harbor
Todd Harbor to Lake Richie
Lake Richie to Rock Harbor....with a stroll down stoll trail
5 days and catch voyager from Rock Harbor back to Grand Portage.

Chris, checked my trip log from a few years ago. I'd call it steady travelling, but not pushing it.
2:30 hrs McCargoe to Chickenbone (way too long and a long story)
4:15 hrs Chickenbone to Richie (including lunch)
4 hrs from Richie to Wood Lake (including lunch)
Pushing on to Chickenbone would give you the option of passing Birch and going on to Pickeral the next day if the weather's good. Last summer we got "wind stuck" on Birch Is. for a day and probably should have waited another instead of paddling in 2-4 ft waves to Pickeral. I'd say skip Whittlesey but I'm thinking you're not going to pass up those walleye

8/22 – Sunday: Catch Voyager II to Windigo from Daisy Farm dock. Hike to Huggin Cove. 4.0 miles.

8/23 – Monday: Hike from Huggin Cove to North Desor Lake. 14.4 miles.

8/24 – Tuesday: Hike from North Desor Lake to Todd Harbor. Lunch at Little Todd Harbor. Approx. 14 miles.

8/25 – Wednesday: Hike from Todd Harbor to Moskey Basin. 15.1 miles.

8/26 – Thursday: Hike from Moskey Basin to Rock Harbor. 11.0 miles. Total trip mileage: 65.6 miles

I will be making my 6th trip to the island this year and i will be taking along 2 IRNP rookies! I am once again taking my boat over on the RangerIII. We will be doing alot of Northern Pike and Lake Trout Fishing again this year!

Notes/Other: This is my first of many visits to Isle Royale and will be my fourth time backpacking. As of right now, I am solo with anticipation of others coming along. If not, I am willing to join someone else with an increase of trail distance. I am in shape to do it. I left the treks short by purpose hoping to relax, read, fish, and take a lot of pictures. I can't wait until June!

My initial plan for a hike in late August was to hike the Greenstone from Windigo to RH. However, after a recent weekend shakedown 2 day hike of consecutive 7.5 milers on a relatively easy trail, I've realized I'm not going to be able to get in good enough shape for that fall trip. The knees and legs especially did not handle the ups and downs well. So I'm rethinking my itinerary and would like to know what you think.
Day 1 - arrive at RH then to 3Mile via the Tobin Trail
Day 2 - 3Mile to Daisy Farm
Day 3 - DF to Lake Ritchie
Day 4 - Ritchie to Chippewa Harbor
Day 5 - CH back to Moskey Basin
Day 6 - Moskey to Daisy Farm
Day 7 - DF to RH
While at Daisy Farm hope to go up to Mount Ojibway without packs and back.

5-18-2010: Hike the east trail to Huginnin Cove.
5-19-2010: Take the western trail from Huginnin Cove back to Washington Harbor.
5-20-2010: Enjoy some leisure time in the ranger station and surrounding area while waiting for the Voyageur back to Grand Portage.
Notes/Other: This may be the first time my buddy and I will have other friends to hike with. Still waiting to see if they can join us.
