Re: Deet vs Picaridin

Just wanted to follow up after a week on the island. The 20% picaridin worked fine for the mosquitos during mid-June, and I ended up using less than 1 ounce total for a week. There were still some persistent bugs that would try to land on clothing, but they definitely kept their distance from any pi...

Re: Wildfire on IR; Part of the Minong closed

Just returned from a trip to the island, and we were fortunate enough to hike the affected section of the Minong. We took the Voyageur II over on Saturday, June 9th, but were disappointed to hear it was still closed. We ended up deciding to overnight at Huginnin Cove before checking back at Windigo ...

Re: Wildfire on IR; Part of the Minong closed

I too have heard that the fire is out, but the affected sections of trail need to be checked for hazards before reopening. Hopefully this week!

Thanks for the update. Too bad it is still closed - I'm hoping it opens by June 9th!

As srparr mentioned, the potential for DEET to ruin gear is a big drawback for me. Picaridin require reapplication sooner than DEET, but it doesn...

Re: Yet another reason to take the Voyager/Sea Hunter

I took 28 from the bridge to Munising (I-123 to I-28) last year, and I thought the roads were in great shape. It was a pretty easy drive, although we didn't have a trailer. Hope your travels go well!

Re: Wildfire on IR; Part of the Minong closed

That is a relief. Hoping to head through that section of the Minong in about two weeks, so hopefully our planned route works out. Thanks again for keeping everyone informed!

Re: Wildfire on IR; Part of the Minong closed

Thanks for posting this news! I hope the damage isn't too extensive. Do you have any guess about how long they might have the trail closed for this type of thing?
