We took the Voyageur II over on Saturday, June 9th, but were disappointed to hear it was still closed. We ended up deciding to overnight at Huginnin Cove before checking back at Windigo ...

I too have heard that the fire is out, but the affected sections of trail need to be checked for hazards before reopening. Hopefully this week!

I have had good success with Picaridin the past few years, although I haven't tested it on Isle Royale bugs yet (I'll have to report back in a few weeks). I took 28 from the bridge to Munising (I-123 to I-28) last year, and I thought the roads were in great shape. It was a pretty easy drive, although we didn't have a trailer. Hope your travels go well!
