Re: Recommended sleeping bags / pads for IR

If pack weight is not that important to you, maybe a Big Agnes air mattress will work. Weight and comfort are both important to me, so I spent the money and got a NeoAir. It really depends on what your comparing to between the two lines. The Insulated Air Core from Big Agnes is basically the same w...

Re: 2013 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!

I've yet to go to Chippewa, it's on of the few I haven't gone into yet but hear great things about it. I've been to lane cove and like it as your away from people more because of the dead end. I'd recommend the second Itineary simply because you'll enjoy more time at Moskey and that's the best site ...

Re: 2013 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!

Sounds like you've got a fairly trimmed pack MikeA. Is that dry or wet 36#? Your Itineary looks pretty long hiking some days (including the first one) and short on the other days (like Todd to Hatchet). It depends on what you want to do though and how used to long hikes you are. Are you coming on th...

Re: 2013 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!

Looks like a great trip sgats. I'd love to hear the trip report as its a trip I've thought about before and hope to do someday!

If the weather is noce and Siskiwit lake isn't rough consider a brief side trip to Ryan island.

Does anyone know the release schedule for the movie? I'm really excited to purchase it. If anyone gets to the release and finds out please post details!

Re: Adding or Reintroducing Wolves to IR

I tend to agree with the idea of artificially supporting and reintroducing some wolves on the island. It seems like the premise of the wolf and moose study is to view the balance of predator and prey in an isolated environment. If a wolf would have crossed over on an ice bridge this year it would ha...

I haven't tried this but always heard the exact opposite of this. Doesn't Down loose its insulating abilities when wet?

Thanks for the update. I'm a big guy and really only have ever found one mummy that I like (mont bell super spiral down) but that comes with a nasty price tag. Like you I LOVE it but its a 40 degree bag that I've taken to 36 before. I also have a 15 degree Big Agnes Park Series down bag which is wha...

Love the report, great job! Sounds like such an adventure.

Out of curiosity what degree rating is your sleeping bag you referred to? Wondering if I was under rated with what I had packed. We were almost to Madison when we got the call and cancelled our trip as we couldn't extend our trip.

Re: Best method to provide fishing tips 'on the trail'

I agree with the idea of LNT and understand the premise and benefits. If for some reason that person (I'm guessing he's talking about me as we've been talking about our trips and they lightly overlap) doesn't make it to that site the note would turn into litter/trash and possibly blow around. The ba...

Hey wilderness junkie. How long are you going to be around. I'm trying to get my reschedule trip done now and my buddy and I will likely be trying to fish west Chickenbone and Ritchie. Leaning twoard 6/3 arrival on the island. Fishing 4/5/6 mostly. Would love some inside info

Re: Planning a trip... thoughts?

Full gators depends on the person IMO. I don't think I'd bring gators AND Rain pants but as I said that's my oppinion. Depending on the season the trails dry out pretty quickly. Summer days where it's sunny out most of the dew has burnt off by mid to late morning. If you want to leave before that yo...

Re: Store and Water Taxi - when's it open?

Excellent. Thanks for the tip. I did try calling but it went to VM. I sent a "contact us" style email asking for email or call but hadn't heard. Still off season but its prime "planning" season for me!
